Special Olympics Summer Games

This year, the Special Olympics Summer Games were held at Cal State Long Beach and volunteers from Driver SPG went out to cheer on the Bocce Ball Tournament! Eleven SPG employees, friends, and family members arrived at CSULB with handmade signs, ready to motivate and support the athletes. After a brief lesson on the basics of Bocce Ball, our volunteers assisted with scorekeeping, judging, running scores, and cheering on the Bocce players for the afternoon.

The summer games bring together more than 1,100 athletes with intellectual disabilities from all over Southern California to showcase their determination, courage, and skills. The weekend-long event also had an Olympic Village with game booths, food, face painting, and therapy animals. The therapy animals were a hit with all the athletes and the Driver SPG team. Everyone had a great time cheering for the athletes, hearing their stories, and seeing their enthusiasm for the games. It was a fun and inspirational afternoon and we’re already looking forward to next year!
