This project transformed the Alton Building into a hub for student service functions at the Rinker Health Science graduate campus. It provided centralized student services and amenities that support the goal of providing the academic excellence exemplified by the ongoing clinical, academic and research programs. The project modified approximately 51,000 SF on both floors of the existing two-story office building in the northern corner of the multi-building campus in the Irvine Spectrum. This included the build-out of 46,000 SF for student service functions, including a commissary, full kitchen, grab-and-go counter, and barista coffee bar station. There was also a roughly 5,000 SF expansion of the existing Brain Institute, which remained operational during construction. The Brain Institute comprises a network of interdisciplinary researchers and specialists across a variety of fields who are focused on the unification of research in the behavioral and brain sciences.
